Pete Berwick: Just Another Day In Hell
Nothing remotely Irish or Celtic here. What we have is a collection of rough and tumber, low class American country tinged with punk. Kind of the musical equivalent of a bottle in the face at a red neck honky tonk joint (and the ocasional red neck comedy club - check out "Busted in Kentucky" and "Road Kill Blues"
) somewhere 0n the highway between Chicago and Nashville. A fine follow up to 2007's "Ain't No Train Outta Nashville". Standout track for me is "Vacancy in My Heart", mostly cos it rocks hardest. Recommended for fans of Johnny Cash, Steve Earl or Springsteen at his roughest.

Pipes & Pints: 5 track EP
I had heard the first Pipes & Pintes EP sometime last year and was so blown away I featured them on the Shite'n'Onions podcast (I also though I gave the EP a rave review in S'n'O but can't seem to find the review - must be going soft in my old age).
And just to prove that EP wasn't some kind of fluke the Czech masters of bagpipes and Punk rock are back with a 2nd 5 track EP of some of the
best Celtic punk the Dropkick Murphys never wrote. Better still this EP is free to download from the bands web page. Check it out.
Fiddler's Green: Sports Day At Killaloe
When I listen to Fiddler's Green "Sports Day At Killaloe" I keep thinking I'm hearing two different bands on the same CD - one a extremely high
energy party, drinking and puking Celtic punk band who sup from the same whiskey bottle as Flogging Molly. The other, a darker and much more
intense progressive Celtic rock/metal act meets punk - Enter the Haggis is the closest comparison I can think of - Enter the Haggis with a
shit hot metal guitarist playing harder then they ever played before that is.
My own preference would be for the darker progressive Celtic rock/metal sound - it's highly original and very well done (as opposed to the party,
drinking and puking Celtic punk band which is just very well done). Ultimatly, it doesn't matter what what you're preference is cos with 19 track
on the one CD it's like you get two for the price of one.
The Tossers: On a Fine Spring Evening
Chicago's answer to The Pogues are back with their 3rd release in as many years. And since we're all very familiar with The Tossers here at Shite'n'Onions
I'm going to take a short cut with the review. "On a Fine Spring Evening" is very much in the vein of the last two releases by the band - though a better
release then the very good "Agony" but not quite reaching the genius heights of "....Valley of the Shadow of Death" - they just haven't managed to write
a song that tops "No Loot, No Booze..." though "St. Stephen's Day" comes close. "On a Fine Spring Evening " is a fine release and a reconfirmation that
The Tossers deserve to be in the top tier of Celtic punk along with Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys.
